Birthday Girl

And there was a time, not that long ago when I was born; a day like today. Yes, I’m celebrating my birthday number… What does it means to me? It means that I have been blessed with a good and pretty long life, that I have had time to enjoy good friends and a loving family, that I’ve had many blank pages to write my own personal story and it has been awesome.

Today has been a blessing. Through the distance I have celebrated this special day with my friends, old and new. As I woke up I threw my intent to the universe: Today is a special day and I choose to be happy and enjoy each minute with love. This is what I have been experiencing because everything with throw to the universe comes back multiplied.

Age? That is just a number. My heart is pounding. My face is smiling. Energy runs wild and life is beautiful and exciting. Let’s all celebrate, birthday or not. Any day is a good day to cherish our gifts. Happy Birthday to all!!

Return of the goddess

Love is the new and only religion for the 21st. century.

It’s a beautiful sunny day in Georgia. Spring is in the air and nature is giving us its best. Strawberries are one of my favorites so, early this morning I am at Adam’s Farms in Fayeteville, ready for my strawberry day.

There are over twenty named species of strawberry plants been the most common the Garden Strawberry. The U.S. along with Spain are the major producers of this delicious fruit. It is also good for your health since one cup has only 45 calories. Strawberries are known to be the fruit of love; delicate and heart-shaped.

Legend has it that if you break a double strawberry in half and share it with someone of the opposite sex, you will fall in love with each other. Nice, right? Strawberries are the symbol for Venus, Goddess of love. They symbolized perfection and righteousness. The Romans believed that this fruit could heal symptoms of melancholy, fainting, inflammations, kidney stones, and diseases of the blood.

Thinking about all these amazing stories, here I am enjoying nature and selecting fresh and gorgeous strawberries that would bring love, happiness, good health, and a piece of nature to my home. This is the daily magic that we can’t afford to miss.

The blessing of hearing is too often taken for granted. We are so use to it that we forget what it would be like to lose this precious gift. What have you listened lately? Probably you have missed the singing of the birds, the roar of the wind, the soft clashing of the leaves hitting the ground. Have you missed a voice asking for help? Have you missed your own voice trying to help you when you think you have been forgotten?

What you might not know is that the power of hearing goes beyond the body organ pertaining to that sense. You can hear with your eyes, when looking closely to the eyes of others who are begging for your attention. You can hear through actions, those that capture our sight but are not paid any attention. Touch talks to us so we can hear how much we are loved. Silence speaks so we can hear the words that are not said out of fear or doubt.

Today, take a moment to listen in many ways. Be mindful of the many messages you are receiving and the many voices that are trying to reach you. Make time for yourself and give time to those who want you just to listen.

Your Mythic You and Your Passion

Have you ever identified yourself with one of those mythic characters we read about in history books? I have had a close relationship with Isis, on her eternal search for her husband or one of those priestesses mentioned in old Greek or Hindu books or the gypsies I encountered in far away lands. Why? I don’t really know. I guess all of us are born with some kind of eternal memory from other times that we can’t quiet remember.

Thinking about what my life has been so far, I have realized that those characters have led many stages of my existence, many of them in a good way. I have always been a strong woman in search for the unknown, in search of that special something that would give me the joy of freedom, adventure and unconditional love for myself and those around me.

How many of you have ever dreamed to live a fairy tale, those that are only narrated in children books? Most people think that it is not possible to experience it in the midst of the turbulent and hectic times we face. When you can’t imagine it could happen, there it is but since we stopped believing, we let it go, losing the once in a lifetime opportunity to taste the flavors of magic.

I had mine and I am grateful to life every day for allowing all my senses to enjoy the time when my own fairy tale took form. It is all about believing that miracles do exist, that love has many faces, and that magic is possible and can be perceived in the air we breath, the music we hear, the words that inspire us, the food we share, the dance at midnight, when there’s no clock to mark that time when it is over, and the sky that gives you shelter.

Your mythic self can guide you into that fantasy that you can keep real. She can lead the way of those dreams you have been dreaming forever but never dare to make tangible. Passion for life is one of the most important aspects we need to develop in order to get in touch with that self that is an integral part of all humans. It is the passion for what we do, think, imagine, and work hard for; passion for those around us, those who share their own passions with us.

Just think about it. What is your passion? Do you live with that awesome feeling? Even in the worst of days, do you allow your passion and that unknown inner character to take charge and heal your pain? It is in our nature. Could you remember?

Learning to Drive

I got my first car at twenty one. My first child was born when I was barely eighteen. It took me quiet some time to learn the rules, laws, and skills a good driver should exhibit. It has taken me a lifetime and three more children to learn the skills and tricks of what a good mother should be.

You see, been a mother is like learning how to drive. Even though you’re provided with a driver’s manual, is not until you hit the road and get behind the wheel, that you are finally able to practice and master all the theories.

When you first take a glance at your newborn, especially been a child yourself, you begin to wonder and asking the million dollar question: What now? How would you be able to drive another life when you have not yet master you own gears? The answer to this, there’s none. You surrender to the highways, curves, and steep hills hoping that your faith and divine guidance will help you with the right choices, quick moves, and a strong determination to be worthy of that pilot’s seat.

It has been a long time since I first drove my first black Toyota Hatch Back. I learned how to drive by driving. It has also been a long journey through the twirls and turns of motherhood. I have learned how to be a mother by been a mother, 24/7, no benefits or paid vacations but one of the best driving lessons you could ever experience.

What would you like to Step through Today?

Sometimes we spend years dwelling inside a close circle from which we don’t know how to escape. It is like a never ending story with a variety of possible endings but none of these seem to be the final. What is it inside that circle that is bothering you? What is it that is getting in the way of achieving your dreams? What is that one story that is holding you back?

This Spring Break I experienced what I call an Easter miracle. It happens that you could be blinded for many nights and days until one dawn you open your eyes into a new reality; the one you were looking for but were never able to see. That is when the circle you have been enclosed in finally opens; you step out of it, and are able to close it forever. You have just stepped through your fears, doubts, and unwelcomed feelings. You are free to begin again, refreshed, and regenerated. Like the butterflies you fly in new heavens, spreading your best colors. You finally touch one of life’s best second chances. You don’t need to hide anymore. Now you are brave enough to find the courage to step through the flames and obstacles you have created.

That is the miracle. Are you ready for the journey?

On April 11, 1970, Apollo 13 blasted off on its ill-fated mission to the moon. In 1689, William III and Mary II were crowned as joint sovereigns of Britain. It is Saturday. This day was named after the planet Saturn, the god of agriculture, founder of civilizations, social order, and conformity. In astrology, Saturn is associated with limitations, restrictions, boundaries, practicality and reality, crystallizing and structures. It governs ambition, career, authority and hierarchy, and conforming social structures. It concerns a person's sense of duty, discipline and responsibility, and their physical and emotional endurance during hardships. Saturn is also considered to represent the part of a person concerned with long-term planning.

On this day, which is your day, take time and think about those qualities. Ask yourself which of these are serving as obstacles for your personal growth and which ones are helping you in your process towards the life you want to live. Is conformity with your surroundings or life style getting in the way of achieving your dreams? What steps are you willing to take to make a positive change? Is your profession your true passion or is it just something you do to get by?

Remember, today is your day like every day. Give yourself the gift of recovering the one you have always been. Rest assured that you are here for a magical and unique purpose. It is up to you to find it.

Apollo 13 mission failed but the men on board made their way back home safely. It took courage, determination, and faith to make that happen and live to tell the story. Like William and Mary, crowned yourself with self-love, confidence, and the desire to be the creators of a better future; the future you are destined to live and share with those within your circle of love.

As I Open the Door

We open doors every day. It is such a common action that we barely pay any attention to the action itself much less to what we see behind that door. Today, as I open the door I made the intention to notice the details of the world outside. What did I see?

It was a cloudy day and light raindrops were falling, so my initial encounter woke up my senses with the smell of fresh rain, vitality, and cleanness in the air. My eyes opened to the magic of the new green breaking the ground after a long winter. The bushes and tress around were about to begin their dance, giving birth to bright buds that will later turn into colorful flowers and shinny leaves. The newborn day breeze touched my skin welcoming a brand new twenty four hours period. Early in the morning most of the living world is still asleep but nature is always awake, guarding our dreams and getting ready to embrace us at every dawn.

Stand still next time you open your door. Avoid the rush and welcome the peacefulness of the silent living beings that surround you. Even the most common of actions could turn into a transformational experience of love and new beginnings.

Little Girls Indulgence

One of the best things a girl any age could do for herself is to reserve a day to pamper and nurture her senses. Today I discovered that what many of us take for granted could be an amazing, new experience for others. So there I was sitting on my massage chair while a nice, Vietnamese lady took care of my feet and my energy points. After five minutes, another lady sat next to me. Every single expression on her face was yelling to the world how happy she was to be there. As soon as she sat down she began telling the story of how this was the first time in her almost seventy years that she was experiencing a pedicure, manicure, and massage, all in the same day. Her gestures, words, and an on-going laughter were the witnesses of the moment. Her look was like that of a child seeing fireworks for the first time. She was in total bliss.

As she narrated, all her life was spent taking care of her children, job, husband, and other relatives. Now, after losing her husband she had finally decided to take care of herself and live the life she had always wanted. So now she is going places, doing those tiny things that make her happy; living her dreams.

I left that place happier that when I arrived. It was a lesson to see so much energy and life in a woman who devoted her years giving to others. I will never know all the details of her life but I am pretty good reading people’s eyes. Her eyes told me many stories, hard work, personal struggles; they talked to me about dreams, silence, and that innate energy and passion all of us are born with.

Now she is indulging herself with the little pleasures we as women deserve. Now she is looking at her life with new eyes, enjoying every minute after spending her life been the joy to others. Women are strong and beautiful beings created to bring the perfect balance to an unbalanced world. She is a vivid example. Little girls like us indulge ourselves with details. There’s nothing wrong with it. Little girls like us love ourselves; that the best self-indulgence ever.

What is Your Mind Telling You?

Our mind is always in motion. It never stops, not even when asleep. Self talk could be one of the most powerful aids as well as a huge enemy. The Toltec used the term “mitote” referring to that commotion in our mind. This inner voice is always talking to us, judging every decision or action. This is why if we don’t learn how to clear our minds and calm that voice down, this on-going inner conversation could endanger our sanity as well as our emotional and spiritual growing process. Since each of us view the world according to our beliefs and assumption our chattered mind takes advantage and validates those even if they are wrong or don’t serve our immediate purpose.

Self talk can be controlled in many ways. Meditation is a practice that would allow you to calm your mind and soften that voice inside you. However, we can not stop every minute to enter in a meditation session. What to do then when we notice that self talk is taking over?

• Be mindfully aware of your actions and thoughts
• Question yourself: How do I feel about this? Why do I feel this way? What is the message coming out of this situation?
• Be honest with yourself and your thoughts
• Don’t be afraid to face reality; this is your reality, the one you created
• Focus your attention in those things that would add something positive to your life

Honor your inner voice. My experience tells me that when we learn how to intentionally guide this voice inside our mind it could turn into a great friend. Make it work for you not against you. Happy friendship with your self talk!

Taking a Morning Shower

For ages water has been sinonym of purity and cleanness. It has the power to wash away our mental, physical, and spiritual illness. This is the way I see my daily showers, especially that first one in the morning which prepares me to face the world every day. A shower should be a daily ritual of renewal; a time where we acknowledge the gifts of mother earth and ask for it to help our body heal, our mind to be clear, and our spirit to rise and reach that point where we can be one with all creation.

Next time you take a shower don’t rush. Enjoy the clear water running through your body. Feel the essence of its elements and ask that with every drop you be renewed. Take your time to visualize your day under the running water. Meditate on the things that don’t serve you anymore and ask the water to wash those away. This is the time to breathe all that you are and exhale all that you are not. Declare your intents breathing in and exhale your intentions so the world can hear.

Take advantage of this special occasion to expand your senses. Surround yourself with beauty, smell your favorite scents. In my case lavender and eucalyptus have always added some magic to my morning ritual. See yourself as the perfect creation you are. Declare your love for your self and others. Take action in spreading positive feelings and be willing to receive the every day blessings. Make that morning shower a special event where you are giving back to yourself. Reward yourself every day with a ritual of fresh water. Little details like a mindful shower could change your life and make it easier. It would remind you that the most important things in life are always simple.

What We Don't See

In the midst of a global crisis there are many aspects of life we miss. Most of us out here focus on the negative; the financial stretch, raising unemployment, people losing their homes, high fuel prices, crimes, decadent education, broken families, and many other things belonging to the dark side of life. Our minds rotate around circles of insecurity and doubt. Our minds bring more of precisely that we don’t want.

It is human to worry about a worldwide crisis. Families all around the world are facing tough times endangering their stability but lets stop for a moment and think about all those other wonders we are missing in the path; those things we don’t see blinded by fear and doubt.

Some weeks ago there was a brutal tornado, one of those natural disasters which give people little time to prepare. A whole town was literally destroyed but there were no casualties. When interviewed, all the survivors mentioned how “lucky” they were to be alive after such a disaster. This is an example of those things we don’t see.

We are not lucky but blessed and our daily blessings are one of the first things that go unnoticed before our eyes. A second chance, a new beginning is not a lucky strike; it is a God’s sent blessing. Then, instead of spending our days focusing only in the negative circumstances that are shown every day in the daily news, look at those things we don’t see. Here is my list:

1. You wake up in the morning. You are alive and have the opportunity to make a difference in the world. Embrace it and be grateful for every new morning.
2. A group of people gather to help others in need
3. A new child is born
4. Your community starts a community garden for everyone to share
5. More and more people is having new ideas on how to safe the environment while creating new jobs
6. People around the world is coming together to work for the common good of all
7. Having your family together and healthy
8. Opening the door and being able to see your first grandson after months of absence. This was my blessing today.

Look around. Celebrate the good things. Look for them and share them with others. There’s so much beauty out there that it is a waste to just pay attention to the bad. We are changing, the world is changing. We are about to become better, so our world. Open your eyes and see what’s around you. Yes, we are blessed every day.

Intent vs. Intention

Intent is a purpose; a planned action to receive a desired outcome. Intent could stay just there in our mind. It is only when we blend it with our intention that we can actually touch that outcome we have been dreaming with. Intention is the life force, the action, the resources we actively use to create and make our intentions tangible. Both need to be used together for them to work.

What is your intent on this beautiful Sunday morning? Think about it. Write it down. Then set your intention, outline the steps you are willing to make to achieve your intention, and make it happen. Don’t stop or look back. Have no doubts. Look for the signs and hidden messages around you. Once you set your intent and your intentions nothing, absolutely nothing can stop you. Learn with the process, be flexible and open minded. Every step you make will be a learning experience. Learn from it, modify if you have to but never stop.

Many years ago I made my intent to make a drastic change in my life. I saw myself in a new place, surrounded by a challenging environment where I would be facing many opportunities and a better life for my children and I. I set a full force motion and created my intention: Today I am immersed in a vast sea of opportunities. Today my life is what I want it to be and we enjoy the gifts life is giving us.

You are the life force of your own path. Intent added to intention results in a life filled with amazing opportunities, a life filled with unconditional love and unbreakable faith. Today you know that your intent is already there for you. Make it real. Work for it. Make it happen and enjoy the miracles unveiled.

Do Nothing Day

Let’s face it. Most of all live in speeding mode; wake up and rush to get dressed, leave the house, struggle with traffic, and fuzz at everyone and everything in our way. This is one of the main reasons why I have chosen to honor my do nothing days. Usually, it is during the weekend but any day would do. What is a do nothing day all about? It doesn’t mean to crash in bed and hibernate like polar bears although a good sleep is always healthy. My do nothing days are those when I do exclusively what I want, when I want, and the way I want. It is my ideal day, my dream made real. Think about it. How many days do you reserve to be good to your self, only you? Feel bad or guilty about it? Then, you are in need of one of my do nothing twenty four hours. How do we start?

• Make a list of all those things that you have always wanted to do.
• Prioritized that list.
• Prepare yourself and those around you for the main event. Share the list with your family and friends. They could be a great support group.
• On that day, unplug yourself from the outer world.
• Enjoy, have fun, and embrace yourself as the most important person in your world.
• Most of all do not feel guilty and leave any sign of fear or doubt behind.

Remember that you must be happy to make others happy. You can’t give what you don’t have and in order to get there you need to pamper yourself and be the amazing person you were born to be. Do nothing, recharge, and live out loud!

Airfares Around The World

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another great story by Paulo Coehlo. Real life down to earth characters struggling to find the meaning of life; a mirror of what we all go through day by day. The amazing story of Linda makes us ponder and question. What's life's ultimate purpose? What force moves us? What is it that we should all strive for?
